What is Pay&Go

Pay&Go is the contactless payment system that lets you buy a second-class train ticket and Malpensa Express airport tickets, either one-way or return, simply by tapping your payment card or smartphone at the gates and totems with dedicated Pay&Go POS devices available in selected stations.
Where you can use Pay&Go

Pay&Go will be progressively activated in stations served by Trenord trains: gates and totems equipped with POS terminals are branded with dedicated graphics.

How does Pay&Go work

Two taps are all it takes: before departure, simply hold your Visa, Mastercard, Maestro or American Express contactless payment card (credit, debit or prepaid), or your smartphone equipped with Apple Pay/Google Pay and NFC technology, close to one of the Pay&Go gates or totems in the station.

At the arrival station, tap again at a gate or totem equipped with a POS terminal: the fare for the journey you have made by train will be charged to the card used.

In case of ticket inspection, show your card to Trenord staff, who can check that the ticket has been issued. If you purchased your ticket using a virtual card in your Wallet, provide the virtual card number shown in your device Wallet.

With Pay&Go, you can buy second-class rail tickets and Malpensa Express airport fare tickets if one of the two taps is made at Malpensa T1 or Malpensa T2 station.
How can I check my Pay&Go purchases

Access the Traveler Portal and link the card you used to your account to independently check your tickets, view transactions and download payment receipts.

If you paid using a Wallet, you must link the corresponding physical card to your account to check your Pay&Go purchases and download receipts.

Can I also travel on ATM transport with the ticket purchased with Pay&Go?

No; currently, tickets purchased with Pay&Go are train tickets and only allow train travel.

I accidentally double-tapped the same turnstile. What's going on?

If two taps are made in quick succession at the same turnstile or POS totem, the system counts only one tap.

I tapped "Start Trip," but Pay&Go isn't enabled at my destination station. What should I do?

Before traveling, you must check that Pay&Go is active at both the departure and destination stations. If the service is not active at either station, a €15 fee will be applied.

Until December 31, 2026, the fee for missing a tap will be €10.

Now that Pay&Go is available, can I start my journey on ATMs and end it when I get off the train?

No; Pay&Go is not valid on ATMs or other operators.

What happens if I can't tap to end my journey because the turnstiles or totems at the destination station are broken?

If you're unable to tap the ticket at the end of your journey due to a fault with the turnstiles or Pay&Go POS terminals at your destination station, log in to the Traveler Portal to download your receipt 24 hours after your journey and then submit a report using the online form, providing all the details of the incident (station, gate, date, and time). The system will automatically charge you a €15 fee; following the necessary checks, you will be charged the correct fee.

If you fail to submit a report, a €15 fee will apply (€10 until December 31, 2026).

How can I check if a tap is valid?

A tap is valid only if: you hear the voice prompt "Card accepted. Have a good trip"; you see the green light and the text message "Card accepted. Have a good trip" appears.

If the red light and "Card rejected" appear, the tap is invalid.

What happens if I use a different card for the tap at the end of my trip?

If you use two different cards, the system records two separate trips without tapping. Therefore, the €15 fee will be charged twice.

What happens if I don't tap at the end of my trip?

If you don't tap on departure or arrival, the system automatically applies the 15 euro fee.

Can I buy multiple tickets with one card?

No. Only one passenger can travel at a time with a payment card.
