TICKETS AND TRAVEL PASSES
As provided by the regional project of "Electronic Ticketing," starting from January 1, 2024, access to all Trenord services – even in the STIBM area – is allowed exclusively with
- rechargeable electronic tickets (Chip On Paper – COP), purchasable at ticket offices, self-service machines, and authorized Trenord sales points, as indicated on the map available here: link
- digital format tickets, purchasable on the trenord.it website and Trenord App
- electronic subscriptions loaded on the Io Viaggio card, purchasable at a cost of 10 euros with a validity of 4 years.
Access to Trenord services with magnetic tickets, still sold by other operators, is temporarily allowed only if the travel tickets have been validated using devices of other authorized operators capable of validating this format. Manual validation is not permitted.
STIBM travel tickets have some validity characteristics different from railway tickets. Here are all the useful pieces of information to choose the most suitable ticket or subscription for your needs.
All travel passes must be loaded onto the Io Viaggio card or the ATM card [cost of issuance €10], with a validity of 4 years;
Validity of new tickets
Ordinary ticket
The time validity after the initial validation varies according to the number of zones purchased: 75 minutes for two zones; +15 minutes for each additional zone up to 4 zones; +30 minutes for each additional zone for tickets from 5 zones and more. In Milan, the minimum rate is 3 zones and is valid for 90 minutes after initial validation. During the validity period of the ticket, you can make an unlimited number of journeys (e.g. more than once by metro, return by train, etc.)..
10-ticket Carnet
The multi-journey pass (available only in magnetic format), on sale at authorised ticket offices and vending machines, can currently only be used on ATM, NET and Trenord services; it cannot be used by several people simultaneously. During the validity period of the ticket, you can make an unlimited number of journeys (e.g. more than once by metro, return by train, etc.).
Day ticket
It is valid for 24 hours after validation, without a limit to the number of journeys within the territorial scope defined by the areas purchased.
3-days ticket
It is valid for 3 consecutive days from the day of initial validation until the end of the third day's service, with no limit to the number of journeys within the territory defined by the areas purchased.
Weekly pass
It is valid from Monday to Sunday of the same week until the end of the Sunday service, without a limit to the number of trips within the territory defined by the areas purchased; in Milan, the weekly urban pass is always on sale. It can be purchased on the Io Viaggio card or ATM card.
Monthly pass
It is valid for one calendar month for an unlimited number of trips within the territory defined by the areas purchased; in Milan, the monthly urban pass is always on sale. It can be purchased on the Io Viaggio card or ATM card.
Under 26 monthly pass
It is valid for one calendar month for an unlimited number of trips within the territory defined by the areas purchased; in Milan, the monthly urban pass is always on sale.
This can be purchased on the IO VIAGGIO electronic card with a specific Under 26 profile.
Over 65 monthly pass
It is valid for one calendar month for an unlimited number of trips within the territory defined by the areas purchased; in Milan, the monthly urban pass is always on sale.
This can be purchased on the IO VIAGGIO electronic card with a specific Over 65 profile.
Annual pass
It is valid for one calendar year for an unlimited number of trips within the territory defined by the areas purchased; in Milan, the annual urban pass is always on sale.
It can be purchased on the Io Viaggio card or ATM card.
Under 26 annual pass
It is valid for one calendar year for an unlimited number of trips within the territory defined by the areas purchased; in Milan, the annual urban pass is always on sale.
This can be purchased on the IO VIAGGIO electronic card with a specific Under 26 profile
Over 65 annual pass
It is valid for one calendar year for an unlimited number of trips within the territory defined by the areas purchased; in Milan, the annual urban pass is always on sale.

Pet supplement
For the transportation of animals accompanying the traveller in the STIBM area, the existing rail surcharge for animals (€2.00), valid for an unlimited number of journeys up until the last train of on the day of validation, even if after midnight, regardless of the number of areas crossed.
If the animal is transported on urban rail services, corresponding to the Mi1-Mi3a zone, the standard STIBM Mi1-Mi3 fare of €2.00 is applied.
Bicycle supplement
For the transportation of bicycles accompanying the traveller in the STIBM area, the existing rate of the rail bike supplement (€3.00), valid for 24 hours after initial validation, must be applied.
If the bike is transported on city rail services, corresponding to the Mi1-Mi3a zone, bicycles travel free of charge.
FAQ - STIBM - Ticket
Since STIBM travel tickets (single tickets, daily tickets, multi-ride tickets, and subscriptions) sold on magnetic media by ATM channels cannot be validated on the new Trenord devices, access to railway services is allowed only for customers with pre-validated magnetic tickets at suitable validators still available at other integrated companies (ATM network and bus operators).
Manual validation by the customer is not permitted. This measure has been adopted pending the transition to electronic and digital ticketing by other operators, as provided by the regional project "Electronic Ticketing".
