FARES

The fare between two places – i.e. the place of origin and the place of destination of the trip – is independent of the means of transport used, and is calculated on the basis of the number of zones within which the passenger is travelling and may vary according to the route used.

Trips between locations in Milano

In Milano, the minimum fare that can be purchased is €2.20, equal to 3 fare zones (Mi1 - Mi3), and allows for travel throughout the city of Milan and up to 21 municipalities included in the Mi3 zone, and vice versa.

Trips between STIMB locations outside Milano

To travel between suburban locations, you need to purchase a fare from 2 to 7 zones, depending on the number of zones within which you are travelling.

Some examples:

- from Monza (Mi4 zone) to Arcore (Mi5 zone) = 2-zone fare Mi4-Mi5

- from Gessate (zone Mi6) to Vimodrone (zone Mi3) = 4-zone fare Mi3-Mi6

If moving between suburban locations involves crossing the borders of Milan, it is always necessary to also purchase the Mi1 fare zone; the fare is therefore equal to the fare zones included between Mi1 and the fare zone of the location furthest from Milan included in the trip, for example:

- from Pero (zone Mi3) to Gessate (zone Mi6) = 6-zone fare Mi1 - Mi6

- from Monza (zone Mi4) to Abbiategrasso (zone Mi7) = 7-zone fare Mi1 - Mi7

NOTE: The minimum fare that can be purchased in a suburban area is 2 zones even if you travel between municipalities located in the same fare zone. Since there are no travel documents valid in a single fare zone, it is necessary to purchase one that includes the zone of interest and, indifferently, one of the two adjacent zones (internal or external), for example:

from Desio to Lissone (both in zone Mi5), the following can be used indifferently:

2-zone fare Mi5 - Mi6

2-zone fare Mi4 - Mi5

Fare reductions

The integrated STIBM subsidised passes [under 26 and over 65] can only be loaded on the new IO VIAGGGIO electronic card with a specific under 26 or over 65 profile.

CHILDREN UNDER 14

a) when accompanied by a paying adult they travel free of charge. In the event of a check, they must show proof of identity attesting to their age.
There are no restrictions on the number of children who can be accompanied.

b) if travelling alone, they must be in possession of an Under 14 card [temporarily replaceable by presenting the Under 14 form, printed and filled out in full, to be presented with an identity document]. The card can be requested through the ATM website.

YOUNG PEOPLE UNDER 26

25% discount on the ordinary monthly pass and the ordinary annual pass, which can be purchased on a IO VIAGGGIO electronic card with a specific under 26 profile.

SENIORS OVER 65

25% discount on the ordinary monthly pass and the ordinary annual pass, which can be purchased on a IO VIAGGGIO electronic card with a specific over 65 profile.

GROUPS [minimum 10 people]

Groups of under 14s travel for free. In the case of school groups, 1 free teacher for every 10 pupils.

PEOPLE/FAMILY UNITS WITH AN ISEE CERTIFICATE OF LESS THAN €6,000

Discount of 85% on the regular annual pass fare.
