Desenzano cycle route - Sirmione

The 8 km cycle/pedestrian path that leads from Desenzano to the centre of Sirmione passes through towns that characterise the coast of Lake Garda, and allows you to admire and get to know two of the most beautiful and interesting places of all of Lake Garda: Desenzano and Sirmione.

Desenzano del Garda

The first stop is the famous Desenzano Castle, which dominates the entire area. It was once used to defend itself from barbarian invasions, and is now a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the lake and the surrounding hills. Crossing the streets of the centre, it is worth visiting the Duomo, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene. This is one of the most important Renaissance works in the province of Brescia. Then a trip to Villa Romana cannot be missed, located on the southern shore of the lake, with its polychrome mosaics.

PDeparture from Desenzano to Sirmione: 8 km that anyone can do. In Sirmione you will be spoilt for choice, but you certainly cannot miss a visit to the town's historical centre, to the Rocca Scaligera, one of the best-preserved castles in Italy, and to the archaeological area of the Grotte di Catullo. Before taking your bike back to Desenzano, treat yourself to a moment of relaxation at Jamaica Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the beautiful and charming town; a dreamy corner of paradise with crystal clear water. More advanced cyclists can cover another 4 km by going to Peschiera del Garda, and continue on the Mincio cycle path or the one to Lazise.

Valtenesi panoramic cycle lane

From Desenzano get to Salò, and cycle along the hilly area of western Garda, passing through vineyards, olive groves and vast plateaus with beautiful panoramas and views of the lake. Other noteworthy points of interest along the Valtenesi Cycle Route are the town of Lonato sul Garda, Padenghe Castle (in Padenghe sul Garda), the old town centre and the lakeside promenade of Salò.

Valtenesi panoramic cycle lane

The route will wind through the hills that serve as an amphitheatre to Lake Garda, among villages, castles and panoramic views. Once you get to Salò, you will continue with a short but steep climb towards Cisano and then take the beautiful bike path surrounded by olive groves, which descends gently towards the wonderful gulf of Baia del Vento. We will continue towards Manerba in the direction of one of the most evocative panoramic viewpoints of the entire lake: the Rocca, a natural park overlooking Lake Garda. You will then depart for the Biciclettaio Matto via the scenic coast of Vò.

Borghetto on the river Mincio

A bike/pedestrian path that offers wonderful views of the lake brings you to Peschiera del Garda. Here, along the fortified walls, the Mincio Cycleway begins, which, through Monzambano, stops at Borghetto, a romantic and characteristic little village rated among the most beautiful villages in Italy. On the way back you will pass through the countryside of the lower lake, between Castellaro Lagusello and Pozzolengo, and then return to Desenzano del Garda.
